Meilleures performances en plage haute. Brides courtes sans poulies, avec moins de trainée et plus de réactivité. Nouvelles oreilles avec plus d'angle, permetatnt un meilleur redécollage. Même si la nouvelle ENVY a beaucoup évolué, nous avons conservé son feeling, ce qui en a fait notre kite de référence depuis toutes ces années. Weve ridden the Envy since its first generation, and for us theres no doubt LF have moved in the right direction with the 2015 model.

The Envy has always been a dependable, fun, freeride kite and was also particularly good for unhooking. It was also incredibly robust, perhaps a little too bombproof though and was a bit let down by a sluggish tendency in its turns, but thats why it was very popular in schools.

The nine metre sizes and smaller have always been very good for boosting. Its like the dude who decided he wanted to get fit and is now doing marathons. Weve heard many people saying, Oh, theres not much changing in kites in the last three years, but thats not true, were seeing big changes, but theyre perhaps more subtle than people are expecting, considering kitings flamboyant design history. First thing is how much lighter the kite is now. Youll find all the features youd hope to see on a 2015 kite, including the widest inflation valve on the market that really speeds up your set-up time, but also a regular back-up valve next to it in case you have to borrow a regular pump. Pumping it up, seeing the combination of a thinner leading edge along with a quite deeply profiled mid-aspect canopy, we knew it was going to be fun, forward flying and an all-rounder. Obviously not a super flat racing SLE, but a more C/hybrid and it looks good; people commented so while we were out. And that could have something to do with the fact that the Envy seems to help you ride better and therefore feel better. So easy to get up and going, the Envy is responsive, but not overly so.

If anything there is a slight delay in the steering, but not so much that it interferes with the level of intuitiveness, but just enough to make it correct for normal peoples reactions. You dont have to look at it and its also lovely for freestyle tricks.

It sits until you really tell it to go somewhere with a naturally firm movement, but its not heavy or tiring at all; just in need of more than an accidental tickle to get it moving. You can really ride fast on the Envy too as it keeps on pulling forward. You crank upwind, but without burning your quad muscles, and when a gust hits its easy to maintain. The nine and seven metres have always been good at boosting in the past, but they have also been a bit trombone like on the bar, meaning that there was a lot of sheeting movement required. The new Envy isnt like that at all, its all very natural and puts a smile on your face every time.

Youre way up and then get lots of hangtime on the way down. The Envy is fast and manoeuvrable, so you can either loop out of the jump or just gently ride it out to a very soft and exceptionally easily controlled landing.

The Envy never flew out of the window and stayed with us the whole time, and thats not just because of our super-duper skills; its very easy to use. Not everyone wants hardcore C kites in their lives, but lots of people still want a kite thats fun to kite loop and the Envy instills loads of confidence because it always makes it round the loop. Tight or wider, you can influence the size of the loop, so can still get a good yank from it. Weve ridden it in stunning 30 knots, with sun and waves and had a ball boosting and firing around on it, as well as marginal ten metre weather and felt like it has really helped land unhooked passes.

Obviously lots of crashing too, and the Envy has no issues on relaunch. In waves the Envy stepped up again.

There is a lot of instant depower at the bar, so one minute you can be boosting and the next parking the kite and following it down a wave. It drifts nicely depowered, but yet remains very manoeuvrable for a more aggressive approach and that forward drive keeps it in a good spot in the window, never back-stalling. It just makes you feel good.

Weve come off the Envys before and thought, Yeah, nice kite, but we probably wouldnt have one because wed like some more high performance in one area or another. This time: really good kite and a genuine contender as one of the top all-round kites youll try this year.
